What is CASA?

The Chinese American Students' Association (CASA) is one of Yale's largest and most active undergraduate student organizations. Its purpose is to promote awareness of Chinese and Chinese American culture and identity among all members of the Yale community. We welcome students of all backgrounds who share an interest in culture, politics, community service, or social events.

Welcome to CASA! My name is Monica Wang, and I can't wait to serve as CASA's Community Chair this year! I currently live in Shanghai (between Yale and home is a sweet 12-hour or 13-hour time difference, depending on daylight savings), but I was originally born in Hong Kong. I've also lived in London for a year and attended boarding high school in California before coming here. In my free time, I love to read, write, watch movies, and explore new places. It's one of my goals to travel to as many countries in the world as I can! Identifying myself both as Chinese and Chinese American, I am curious to see how the interplay of cultures will work out, and I am grateful for CASA's presence on campus to explore, define, and celebrate identities. Whether you are Chinese, Chinese American, or from any other background, I encourage you to check out many of CASA's fabulous events in 2015, and I hope to get to know some of you better in person!

Hi everyone! My name is Jackie and I am excited to be this year's CASA secretary. I was born in Boston, Mass and currently live in a suburb just a few minutes drive out of the city. At Yale, I am also involved in the Vietnamese Students Association and tutor at the Co-Op High School. In my free time, I love to watch movies, listen to music, and eat clementines. If you have any questions about anything, feel free to shoot me an email!

Hi guys! I’m Amanda Mei and super excited to be your Cultural Chair for the year. I’m from Skillman, NJ, and previously lived in New York and Beijing. Besides CASA I write and do layout for the Yale Daily News and Yale Scientific Magazine, and I also love playing the piano, reading miscellaneous articles, and trying to figure out what to do with my life. But one of the best parts of my life is undeniably CASA, one the best cultural group on campus. I hope that you can join us for all of our fun events! Feel free to contact me about literally anything.

Hi everyone! My name is Charlotte, and I am thrilled to be this year’s CASPY Chair on CASA board. Being CASPY chair means a lot to me because I am adopted from China myself - I was born in Zhenjiang city, Jiangsu Province, China, and raised in a suburb of Massachusetts. Having extensive experience working with the Chinese adoptee and adoptive community through my time as co-president of one of the first international organizations created by and for Chinese adoptees, I am passionate about working with Chinese adoptees, and I am incredibly delighted to continue my work to Yale. I am also avidly interested in Chinese culture and history, so I am super psyched to work with the Chinese American Students Association to help promote awareness of Chinese and Chinese American culture and identity here at Yale. This year I am a junior in Calhoun College majoring in East Asian Studies. Outside of my studies, you can find me watching Friends on Netflix, listening to music, and visiting with my two rescue dogs at home!

Hi! My name is Annie and I’m very excited to a co-social chair this year. I was born in New York City, but my family currently lives around the Philadelphia area. I’m also involved in the Yale Undergraduate Science Olympiad, Danceworks, and Yale Faith & Action. When I have free time, I’m usually found lying on a hammock, reading the Aeneid, or eating chocolate ice cream. Feel free to send me an email if you have any questions or just want to talk. I would love to get to know you!
